Design Process
At Designology Studio, we strive to make the design process as painless as possible.
Here’s what you can expect when working with us:
Initiation
INITIAL REACH OUT
The first step is to contact us by phone, email, social media, website…whatever means works best for you. From the moment you call us we are ready to help you start.
DISCOVERY CALL
The next step is to schedule a free 15 min discovery call. We use this time to learn a bit more about your project and needs. It’s a great time to ask us questions about us and see if our process works for you.
DESIGN CONSULTATION
After our discovery call we will schedule the on-site 90 min. design consultation. During this meeting we will walk the project with you and discuss all needs in further depth and will offer you valuable advice should you decide to proceed on your own. From this meeting we can put together a rough estimate for you.
SIGNED CONTRACT & RETAINER
A contract will be created for you and will detail you + your projects specific needs. After all questions have been answered the next step is to sign the contract and send us your personalized retainer amount. Once have received both we can get started on your project.
Design + Development
SITE MEASURE
Our next visit will be to do a site measure and take any additional photographs. During this visit we will also review and collect any existing set of plans. This is when we further develop your Scope of Work, create a project timeline, selection sheets + other documents to be used. Cost estimation is very difficult, especially with so many options these days. We do our best to make you aware of the realistic costs of decor items and construction. Getting a project budget right and controlling costs is essential to the projects success.
CONCEPTS, DESIGN & SELECTIONS
With the project budget in mind we will start to develop design concepts, create layouts and gather all sample materials + products selections. Along with any idea photos you have sent us, we will also create a personalized Pinterest board for you. Through Pinterest we will start saving photos or pins for you to comment on. This is critical for us to be able to get a feel for what you truly do and do not like.
CLIENT PRESENTATION + RE-SELECTIONS
Once we have completed the above we are ready to meet with you to present our design concepts, designs + selections for your project. It is at this meeting that we will get your feedback and make any necessary changes so that we can proceed with finalizing the design plan + selections.
Financial + Logistics
PRICING + PROJECT ESTIMATES
Now that we have the design + selections finalized we will begin meeting with vendors and/or contractors to procure pricing and total estimates. All information is put into a personalized Google Spreadsheet for you as well as in a proposal through our project management software.
BUDGET + DESIGN REVIEW PRESENTATION
This is a very critical meeting in which make adjustments to the budget as needed. We will also be finalizing any design changes, review materials + products pricing. If everything looks good and you are ready to go, we will have you sign off on the proposals + estimates and receive payment.
Implementation
STOCK, ORDERS + ASSESSING DELIVERY TIMES
We immediately get to work to check stock on all items, order all materials + products and inspections of items received by designer. During this time we update our project timeline so you can follow along. For permitted projects, designs will be submitted to the appropriate agency for permits to be acquired.
CONSTRUCTION + PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Once all permits have been approved, construction of renovation will begin. We will begin checking the job site as required/requested by homeowners. Includes contractor meetings, correspondences and follow-ups. For decor + styling projects this is when we mostly do our vendor follow-ups to make sure no back order dates have changed or any other issue pops up that could disrupt our timing.
DELIVERY RECEIPT + INSPECTIONS
Once received all products + materials will be inspected by our receiver or design team. At this time any damage to items will be noted, items will be returned, exchanged or repaired. If all is well, a delivery time will be set up to have everything delivered to site.
JOB WALK + PUNCHLIST
For construction projects, we will schedule a job walk with the contractor. At this time a punchlist will be created noting any items that need to be fixed, replaced or changed.
Completion
INSTALL + STYLING
This is probably our favorite and most hectic of all the days on the project. We will meet the delivery team to delivery + install all your items. Sometimes due to back orders this part of the process might have to be done twice. In any case we are there for it all and work to pull the whole look together.
STAGING + PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY
If the client has decided not to proceed with styling as part of their project we will instead stage it all for our photoshoot at no cost. We will set up early and stage your project for our professional photographer to photograph, once done all items will be removed. These items will be available to purchase if you decide you want to keep them, no pressure. These photographs will be used for business advertising + social media use.
PROJECT CLOSURE
At project closure we will present you with a copy of your project binder, refund any remaining retainers and return any keys we may have. We kindly ask that you fill out our client satisfaction survey, complete reviews for Houzz + Yelp and may ask you be a future reference for new clients down the road.
